MENTORSHIP

Program Overview

Men With Vision Association’s Mentor Program focuses on Entrepreneurship, Mentoring, Life Skills Tutoring, Sports programs, Finance, Critical Thinking & Self Confidence to achieve Moral Maturity from at risk youth and underserved families.  Our program serves males and females ranging from ages 10-18. The program intervenes into the lives of youth during their critical transition into a teenager and adulthood. We serve youth that resides in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Washington DC, Baltimore City, Tuskegee, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. MWVA’s program caters to youth who demonstrates poor academic performance, are at-risk of becoming involved in criminal activity and those who live in troubled home environments. MWVA’s proposed program strategies are to assist our youth overcome daily challenges that often hinder their success.

Why Our Program Is Needed

The supportive, healthy relationships formed between mentors and mentees are both immediate and long-term and contribute to a host of benefits for mentors and mentees. The benefits of Men With Vision Association’s mentoring program is that we engage with the youth to:

  • Enhance self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Improve behavior, both at home and at school

  • Improve healthier relationships and lifestyle choices

  • Change their negative mindset to positive thinking/ Help them make better decisions and choices

  • Decrease likelihood of initiating drugs, and alcohol use

  • Decrease likelihood of initiating gang affiliation with violence

  • Enhance stronger relationships with parents, teachers & peers

  • Improve interpersonal skills

  • Decrease in lowering the school dropout rate

  • Increase school graduation rate

  • Create a sense of accomplishment

  • Enhance their entrepreneur mindset

  • Improve higher college enrollment rates and higher educational aspirations

  • Establish Self-discipline, Respect, and Accountability

 

MWVA’s program is known for assisting the youth as they go through challenging life transitions, including dealing with stressful changes at home or transitioning to adulthood.
